This week has been crazy but amazing! so much to take in... and try to absorb.
But it's been great :)
Derby is tomorrow... and I love it! Louisville goes crazy these 2 weeks. It's hilarious! I love how everyone all of the sudden cares about hats and horses.
I love it though :)
Although I live in Indiana now... just across the bridge... I still love it :)
Although sometimes it feels far away from Kansas sometimes, I love it here!
That's all.
(still trying to absorb from the last 5 days at my wonderful new job)
Olivia and I are watching Invincible. Nothing like a great football movie and a great friend.

It's like eating a cake baked with "iffy" eggs...
.... packing and moving to start a new chapter in everything.
(they both have the potential to make your blood pressure rise and feel sick to your stomach)
So apparently I need to stick to baking things other than cakes. cookies, lasagna, pie, anything else is fine. Cakes... I can't do it right. First time was the Africa cake experience. (cooked it at 300 c and thought it was 300 f. not true. fried the puppy at 572 degrees Fahrenheit. the second cake was fine. next time look at the stove and realize it is measured in C not F. duh.) Second experience was tonight. So far so good... and hopefully it'll stay that way. Tonight, I wanted to bake a cake. I had a German Chocolate cake mix. I had the ingredients. So, in between packing rooms, I made the cake. It cooked just fine (at 325 f) looked just fine (chocolaty) and tasted just fine. As Shane and Meagan were leaving I wanted to give them some food I didn't want to move. So I handed them the eggs. Well, they looked at the date on the side. March 19th. today is April 23rd. Needless to say, Shane then took them straight to the trashcan outside and not to their car. So far, we all feel fine. Shane, Meagan, Seth and I each had a small piece. I don't think it's enough to do anything. But, next time I make cake and offer it to you, ask me the dates and degrees at which I baked the cake just to be safe.
Now, the real reason I'm writing. To Stall.
I've always been a good staller. When I was younger, if I didn't want to go to bed, I would read, help mom clean, anything and everything to get out of having to say goodnight. Nowadays, I still stall so I don't have to say goodbye. I stalled packing to GO to Poland becuase I knew once I packed, I'd go and have to say goodbye and have to come back! I know I'm lame. I'm good at stalling on the phone too. Asking questions, bringing up different stories or memories and still talking to try and make the other person forget they needed to go.
But I think the worst kind is stalling from yourself.
I love traveling! I love packing to go somewhere new! BUT the irony is I don't like packing to go somewhere new because that means I have to leave someplace. I am so excited to start this new job! Moving into my new house on Saturday! Getting to know a whole new town, new streets and new neighbors! I get to know 6,000 new people at the new church! I'm stoked!!!
But I don't want to leave. I like it here. I love the people I work with. I love my house that's big enough to have 10+ people over to watch The Office then congregate in the kitchen for hours just talking! I love going to a big church that at any given time on a Sunday morning, there is a steady stream of people walking into church! I love my intern friends! We've clicked like no group of friends I've ever had! We talked about the future with everyone leaving... but it was always so far in the future...
In a few minutes, I'll be putting together the last box of stuff to move. I put everything that needed to be packed on my bed so I would have to do it before I go to sleep. I tried to trick myself. It didn't work. When I was a kid, I loved reading. I would read almost the entire book. But when it got to the last chapter, I'd set it aside because I didn't want it to end. I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters. (I still kinda do that. I'm in the middle of 4 books off the top of my head.) (bad habit. don't start) Me writing right now at 1:42 am is me "putting in the bookmark and setting it aside".
In all reality, there isn't that much to pack. small simple things. candles, curling iron, some papers, the box of pens and pencils from that desk over there. I could easily get it done in 20 minutes. and yet I sit here. Wanting to move on, but wanting to savor the moment and wanting it to last. Apparently I'm currently trying to stop time. But being the "big girl" I am, I can't use that super power and I have to get back to reality.
That reality being: just a few more things to pack. get some good sleep. get up early and complete my last day of work. pack up my desk (which might be another blog-stall enduced time). help with the launch of the new student building "The Block". get another good night sleep. and move.
But for the moment, I'm just going to keep the book on the shelf and not finish it. for a few more minutes. Try to soak in the moment. I'm "becoming a grown up" as my Daddy said. I need to stay and soak it all in. Stay in the moment. (I just think of the scene with V telling Evey to stay in the moment)
This time next week, I'll have moved to a new state, started a new job, met new friends, and so much more. Crazy. I'll also be turning 24 at the end of the summer. Whoa! I just knew I wanted to write what was in my head. I didn't want to miss this moment and later think, how did I process that?
I'm so sad to leave, but I'm so ready to move on! How can that be?
It's time for a new batch of eggs...

Sitting on your roof...
... is like a vacation for your soul!
I read this in a domestic magazine recently.
I'm rather fond of it :)
"Travel pushes my boundaries. When you travel, you become invisible, if you want. I do want. I like to be the observer. What makes people who they are? Could I feel at home here? No one expects you to have the stack of papers back by Tuesday, or to check messages, or to fertilize the geraniums. When traveling, you have the delectable possibility of not understanding a word of what is said to you. Language becomes simply a musical background for watching bicycles zoom along a canal, calling for nothing from you. Travel releases spontaneity. You become a godlike creature full of choice, free to visit the stately pleasure domes, make love in the morning, sketch a bell tower. You open, as in childhood, and-for a time-receive this world. There's the visceral aspect, too-the huntress who is free. Free to go, free to return home bringing memories to lay on the hearth."
Excerpted from A Year in the World, by Frances Mayes
Food for thought:
a)Watching a movie takes less time than a 23 minute show.
(I get addicted to FRIENDS. especially because I have (illegally from India so shhh) all 10 seasons on 5 discs. so 2 seasons per disc. Way too much time.)
2)Baking snickerdoodles and making your house smell beyond amazing right before guests come over, is one of the coolest things ever.
also) this is the longest week ever. feels like it anyway. its really only Wednesday?
Associated with A) wanted to have a movie on in the background... Oceans 11 was 'suggested' to me by a friend's status. So my celebrity crush is hanging out with the big boys on my TV.
*) I can dance around a subject and talk about a lot when whats really on my mind stays there. in my mind.
With that being said, I'll stall for one more day.

the day is here...
Monday the 23rd, my mom goes into the hospital.
I've been distracting myself with basketball and the "big dance". I've been distracting myself with figuring out who plays next and who I have wining in that game. I've been distracting myself with future plans. Plans that include a new job at a Christian Church in Southern Indiana, just outside Louisville. Plans that include going to Chicago in a few weeks to see the Home Opening game for the White Soxs as they play my KC Royals. I've been distracting myself trying to soak up as much time with my intern family as possible before we all spread out and impact the world. I've been distracting myself from what I don't want to face. I'm not in denial. I just don't want to think about it. I know that if I do, I won't be able to function. So, I keep my mind on other things. But the day is here.
As I write this, I'm getting shaky. (when I'm extremely passionate about something, I get shaky... Missions, Poland, Preaching the Word and love of Jesus.) I'm shaky now, because I know that writing it is one step closer to the reality of it all.
BUT at the same time, I have a calm peace. I know that God has the whole situation in His hands. He has my mom in His hands. He knows every hair on her head and every thought in her mind. He has a perfect plan. He has perfect timing! We don't always understand it or like it, but it is perfect. He has made my mom special for this moment... when she goes into a new mission field: the hospital.
Today, my mama is going into KU Medical Center. It will be her first day in her new home for about a month. She will start chemo then on March 31st or April 1st, she will have a bone marrow transplant. She is getting chemo to destroy her bad bone marrow and her immune system. Then she will get the new bone marrow and her body will start to recreate all new, clean blood. Her body will have to rebuild her immune system from scratch. This is why she will be in the hospital for about a month. After the month is over, or when she is healthy enough, she will be able to return home. (Dad and Brother will be cleaning and fixing up the house to make it as clean as possible. air ducts and chimney cleaned... cats living with grandparents) Even after she returns home though, she will have to be extra careful. She will have multiple Dr. appointments a week. She'll only be able to be at home or the hospital. She won't be able to go to church or work. From the day of the transplant, for 100 days, she will be under close watch and care. After this process is over, she should be clear and free of her disease.
Its going to be a long process. We are all so thankful that the day is here! She has been tired and not her uppity "Sweet little Tammy" self since we found out in early November. We knew this could be a really long process trying to find a match to be a donor, and everything that goes into waiting. God has blessed my family with so much! We are all so close and tight! But better yet, we all know Jesus! He has blessed us with amazing extended family and friends that we call family! We know he has this under control! He always does. Yes, this first few weeks will be really hard. Especially being in KY while everyone is in KS. But, we have phones, email, skype and other ways to keep in touch. I also have an amazing family here that has gone above and beyond in taking care of me this year!!
I wanted to let you all know what was going on. I wanted to ask for your prayers!
For my mom: that she can stay healthy, her body accept the transplant and she recovers quickly.
For my dad and brother: to be able to go about their everyday tasks and take care of each other while mom is getting better.
For my grandparents: keep them worry free and able to continue on with everyday tasks.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."
My mom's faith is incredibly strong. I am blessed to have such a wonderful role model to look up to for life, love and joy!
Love you! Keep Praying!!

We'll be back from Africa Feb 18th. Its a quick trip, but I'm sure an amazing one! I can't wait to see what God has planned for us!
I guess I should go pack...

Somewhere between The Bourne Identity and Evita....
... is V for Vendetta.
I just couldn't decide on a movie. I saw the first two first, then when I saw little Evey's face, I knew I had to choose the story of the gun powder treason and plot that should never be forgot.
As I sit here, eating my Lucky Charms, listening to V's vivacious soliloquy, I remember how much I like this movie! It's been too long. I let Katlyn, my bestest, borrow it a year or so ago and just arrogated it with justification back as a Christmas gift! So watching it now is stupendously wonderful. I am co-writing this with my friends the thesaurus and google search. So sit back, grab some coffee or some lucky charms of your own and enjoy this variegated post.
Que lights.
Curtain.
Go.
Act 1 "Sunday relaxation/Gilmore acceleration"
So first, I'd like to tip my hat to living alone. This weekend has been crazy. I worked from 9-1030 on Friday, 8-3 on Saturday and after church today, I went back to church to help with a prayer send-off for a few hours. If I had a wing(wo)man sharing my settlement, I would have had to change a few things about this weekend. Yesterday, when I got back from the training meeting for our mission trip leaders, I hibernated for the afternoon. And this afternoon, after the send-off, I mirrored my actions from yesterday. Insert Gilmore Girls. I'm slightly addicted to that lovely show. (I accuse Amy and Renee ) My marathon of the show is my fault and I do not advise it, unless you want to go about for the next few hours talking expeditiously and expecting everyone else to do so.
Act 2 "D'Shawn Jackson, Jackson 5, TITO!!!"
Although the previous paragraph says one thing, I'm about to express the other. A few days after I moved to Louisville, (almost a year ago! crazy how time flies!) I got a roommate. His name was Kuba. He was a wonderful chap. He would listen to my stories, let me know when my dinner was done, he was there at my house when I came home and was there to greet me when I woke! He was wonderful! He was a beautiful shade of blue and about 2 inches long. He lived a long 9 months for a Betta. My first fish was a great companion! Then one day, I came home from work and he had drifted to the top of his bowl, never to come back down again. There is a happy ending to this story though. Yesterday, I paid $5.35 at Petsmart and got a second roommate. Tyronius Maximus (who goes by Tito)(Name credit: Thank you Brian Reagan) is Red and wonderful. He seems to be adapting quite well! I believe this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Scene 3 "Laundry (the lost load)"
So. This this morning I came to an odd conclusion. The combination of 2 facts and 1 oddity. Fact #1 was that although I could do a load of laundry, I didn't need to. Fact #2, I had no socks or underwear clean. Now, although I don't have an abundance of undergarments, I definitely have enough. So here en lies my query. Where did it all go? Answer. When I went down with my dirty colors, I tried to turn on the light I always turn on when I do laundry. It didn't turn on. Then it the memory hit me. I opened it up and there they were. My socks, delicates and a few shirts that I had unknowingly missed were staring at me. Apparently at some point in my (uber) busy week, I did a load of whites and never finished it! Mystery solved! Now I have something to wear tomorrow!
Scene 4 "Jobs and snow"
Snow. It has been and always will be a part of my life! At least I hope so!!! Snow is my cat nip. No really! When it snows, nothing can go wrong! Everything is beautiful and quaint and white and happy! It snowed earlier today, and although it wasn't as much as Home #1 usually gets (which isn't much at all)it was still beautiful. There isn't really a connection with snow and jobs besides the fact that I'd like to live and work somewhere that entertains the idea of winter full of the pretty white flakes! I have a few places in mind. Chicago and Southern Indiana. Yes, I would have LOVED to move back to the Mother Land, but right now it is much wiser of me to stay state side. Chicago has plenty of Polish people I can talk with and minister to. Southern Indiana (New Albany) has a great church with a growing Missions department. It's still January. But it's getting closer!
Scene 5, "Mama"
A lot of you have asked about my mom. Here is her website.
I haven't written on here since I found out. I didn't know how to express my feelings. I have so much to say. So much to feel. So many thoughts going through my head. I have days of doubt, days of worry, days of 'everythings gunna be ok', and days of coming this close to buying a ticket just for the day. I want to be with her and fix everything and cook and clean and 'do' to help. But I can't do that much and I can't just stay there in Kansas. Like I said, some days are harder, but I know that God has it in His hands and in His perfect timing will everything get done. He is the first, last, alpha, omega, the only way, truth and the life. He is my rock and I will stand on Him alone. No matter what comes, I know it'll be ok. His plan and thought process is just a tad better than mine. (understatement of the century)
And now for the ending credits.
just some food for thoughts.
Slaloming the traffic cones... is frowned upon here in the parking lot at Southeast Christian Church. (but sometime, when no one is watching, just turn left then right. Just make sure no one is in the left area where you turn. Vital information.)
On this note, I will bid you adeu, good night and sleep well!
... until the next adventure....
~just.julie.
